Ambidexterity

I've always been envious of ambidextrous people.
Wouldn't it be cool if you were able to use both your hands equally well?

It would be so so cool wei!

Playing the piano...no more dominant hand drowning out the melody of the other hand.

Playing tennis, squash, badminton or whatever...you could screw your opponent's strategy by swapping your racquet from hand to hand.

Beating people up...each hand could punch as hard as the other (I wish) =D

Wouldn't you want to be ambidextrous too?

And THEN I had to go find out last Sunday that I used to possess this awesome, awesome thing called ambidexterity.

But you know, Chinese parents say using the left hand is not 'polite' nor 'nice,' so they 'trained' my out of it. I mean, you know, they probably thought 'hey, at least she can use both her hands naturally, so it's not as cruel as making a left-hander changing her handedness completely right?'

OMG

Nooooooooooooooooo!

My sister was like:

"Why? Whyyyy? I love seeing left-handed people write! So nice!"

*mimics lefties hand gesture*

And I had nothing to say.
Something I've had always wanted...to think I actually HAD it at one point in my life.
ARGH man!

But this would also explain a few things:

- My left hand is dominant while playing the piano, which means the beat drowns out the melody most of the time. ^^" I have to pay extra attention to play louder with the right hand.

- When eating finger food, I use my left hand most of the time.

- Ditto with picking up drinks.

- I can only snap my fingers with my left hand. = =

- When paying for items in cash, I hand the cash over with my left hand. Rude I know, but it happens when I'm not paying attention. ><

It would also explain why, when I hurt my hand one week before SPM trials and had to learn to write using my left hand, my handwriting turned out nicer than Ling's normal handwriting.

Lol. But maybe her handwriting is just plain illegible. xD
I kid, I kid. =x

But I DID finish my entire maths paper with my non-dominant hand and teacher never passed a single remark about my handwriting. Heehee.

Oh! Oh!
And this also explains the left side of my body is slightly bigger compared to the right.

Normally, when the sides of a person's body are imbalanced, the dominant side is bigger than the non-dominant one.

That is, if you're right-handed, your right hand may be a wee bit bigger than your left.
Or your foot. Or finger. Or toes.

It happens, no idea why. I'm no scientist. =/

But see!
If I press my left and right arms together and lean my elbows on a flat surface - my left arm is almost a whole INCH longer than the right.
Haha! Freak! XD

Same goes for my legs too. -.-

As most of us know, handedness is related to the side of our brain that is dominant.

The right brain is the creative side, and the left is the analytical side.

If you're right handed, your left brain is dominant.
And vice versa.
This is because the nerves crossover somewhere in the spinal cord.

So, this would mean my creative side was SUPPOSED to be dominant, but was suppressed by my parents - 'use your right side, right!'

So I ended up being a right-hander/left brainer.
Which would explain why I love maths and snooze my way through class.

..But I can still draw! Not as well as some people, I know, but still better than the majority. (Heheh, getting full of myself here xD)

Eh wait, I'm supposed to be both-sided, so I should have both qualities!
Wooooot jackpot! Hahahahaha!

But then, see, I'm not especially good in anything - jack of all trades but master of none.
Truthfully, I'm more versatile, but I don't and can't specialise in anything.

Would I rather be like Ling?
Taking pretty, pretty photographs and doing graffiti/stencil art during class in her spare time?

Would I rather be like Abby?
Who also finds maths and add maths a breeze and thinks Chemistry is fun.

Or would I be able to handle both but unable to excel in either?
That means no fancy Art/Photography Awards nor Best Biology Student certificates for me. =(

Oh screw it all!
I'll just keep taking home linguistic prizes. Woots!
Best English student ftw! XD

99th percentile in Malaysia weh, don't play play ah!

(Or, being in Malaysia, is that such a great acheivement after all? = ='')

This would also explain why my two main interests are torn between psychology - a science, and digital art - a fine art.

And maybe that's why I'm doing humanitarian art instead (accounts, econs, bleargh = =)

...So I don't have to choose between either! ^^''
It's upsetting really, I feel so lost.
Still don't know where to go. Sigh.

Song of the Day:

"Wonderwall - Oasis"

=)

There has yet to be an English teacher who doesn't love me. *smug grin*

Including Puan Sarjit, unfortunately.
Heard you're having her teaching you EST now JL, I extend my condolences. =x
